Guest Speaker - Todd E. Pierce, military historian and former JAG (pro bono Military Commission Defense Counsel) at Guantánamo, has represented 3 defendants before the Military Commissions at Guantánamo. He has presented on Guantánamo many times before different organizations, including at our own May 2016 meeting and gave an excellent presentation on the dysfunction at Guantánamo. This presentation will mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the detention center at Guantánamo where there are still 39 prisoners (13 of whom have been cleared for release but remain) at a cost of about $14,000,000 per prisoner per year.
