Speaker - Amanda Lyons - Executive Director of the Human Rights Center

Amanda Lyons is the Executive Director of the Human Rights Center at the University of Minnesota Law School. Amanda works with HRC faculty, researchers, staff, students, and partners to advance the Center’s mission across a wide range of human rights issues, domestic and abroad. Her own research and advocacy work is in the area of economic and social rights, including the rights of rural communities and LGBTI rights.

For this talk, Amanda will provide an overview and update of the work of the Center in several different priority areas including: national security and counterterrorism; business and human rights; economic and social rights; environmental justice; gender - women's rights and LGBTI rights; and the rights of non-citizens. She will share about upcoming initiatives in which Amnesty members could partner, including efforts to implement locally the US' most recent review before the UN Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination and a special series of tribute events in honor of Prof. David Weissbrodt in April 2023.
