Guest Speaker - Andy Worthington

3-4pm CDT

Andy Worthington is an independent journalist, author and activist, who has been researching, writing about and campaigning to get the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed since 2006. He has worked with the United Nations, WikiLeaks, and Amnesty International, and is the co-founder of the Close Guantanamo campaign, established in 2012.

See his website here: https://www.andyworthington.co.uk

And the Close Guantanamo website here: https://www.closeguantanamo.org

Andy will discuss the history of Guantanamo and its persistent lawlessness, and will also address the current situation at the prison, where 30 men are still held. 16 of these men have long been approved for release by high-level US government review processes, three are "forever prisoners" - still held without charge or trial, and without ever having been approved for release - while the rest are caught up in the broken military commission trial system.
