What is the Amnesty Midwest Meetup

  • One day Amnesty Conference
  • Held at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa
  • All Amnesty activists are invited to attend
  • Cost is $10, and Lunch is Provided
  • Sessions will be lead my member leaders

The event started when two Amnesty Area Coordinators decided it would be easier to have one event instead of two statewide events.  Iowa Area Coordinator Mike Wyrick and Minnesota Area Coordinator Wilbur Ince hatched this plan after meeting at an Amnesty retreat earlier this year.  The goal is to create an event to connect Local and Student groups across the Midwest.  One thing led to another, and now we are inviting anyone in the region to join us for a day of Amnesty activism.  

This will be a one-day event, targeted at Amnesty Activists across the region.  We'll provide participants with lunch as part of the event.

Schedule - tentative

  • 9:30am-10:00am | coffee and donuts and networking (optional)
  • 10:00am-10:30am | Introductions, announcements, write a letter!
  • 10:30-1:00pm | 2 morning sessions
  • 1:00pm-2:00pm | Lunch break
  • 2:00pm-4:30pm | 2 afternoon sessions
  • 4:30pm-5:00pm | Closing plenary

  • Introductions - Letter Writing action - be ready to write!
  • IOPT with Jennie Green and Mike Levy
  • Closing Guantanamo, Federal Death Penalty Action, Clemency for Leonard Peltier and other wish list items from President Biden
  • Skill Building session
  • Lobbying 101

Who's Invited?

YOU are invited of course!  All you need is a desire to participate in activistm with Amnesty USA.  

We are extending invitations to all Local and Student Groups in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and surrounding states.  We are also inviting any Amnesty USA members that want to participate and get involved.  If you know activists in your area, please invite them!

Lunch

We're still coordinating the lunch, and will announce options as soon as we have them.  We welcome your dietary preferences, and will work to accommodate everyone's needs.  The signup form below will ask your food preference options.
